Forum Introduction Since its establishment in 2018, the Ocean Affairs Council has been tasked with integrating and managing marine affairs, strengthening the planning and promotion of marine policies, and achieving ecological sustainability, maritime security, and prosperity in the ocean for Taiwan, in accordance with its organizational law.
The ocean is the cradle of all life and the origin of life itself; despite the rapid development of modern technology, our understanding of the ocean remains extremely limited. In April 2019, the "2019 United Nations Secretary-General's Report on the Oceans and the Law of the Sea" announced that from 2021 to 2030, the next decade would be the "United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development" and international cooperation in ocean science would become even closer. It is clear that strengthening ocean science research is an important global trend. As a maritime country, Taiwan should actively participate and respond to this trend, aligning with international efforts and promoting international exchange and cooperation.
By organizing the 2023 Taiwan Ocean International Forum, we can promote interaction and exchange between Taiwan's industry, government, academia, research, and global experts and scholars in the field of ocean studies. This not only facilitates the sharing of knowledge and experience but also provides direction for promoting sustainable ocean development, encourages domestic personnel in the ocean field to participate in international affairs, and enhances Taiwan's active involvement in various international arenas and international marine organizations.
